About me…

I design gardens and graphics. I am also a writer and an illustrator.

I began my career working in the arts inside urban offices with not enough natural light but too much sitting and staring at screens. And, no plants!

I loved my work indoors for many years—until my little art world salary no longer paid the big city rent. So, I went searching for a way to both afford life and pursue my creative vocation.

I became a harticulturalishist!

Obviously, I invented this profession, but not until I dove into the natural world—outdoors—where I re-learned about things that inspired awe and wonder when I was a kid.

At first, it was rough and dirty, a little scary, and mysterious. I ditched my slick black, urban attire for wetlands Muck boots, tons of gloves, hats, old t-shirts, Carhartt pants with infinite pockets, bug juice, and Benedryl!

I soon learned that green and brown stuff (a.k.a. plant material and soil) is alive! I discovered that birds, bees, and bugs were hard at work, keeping ecological cycles of life spinning ‘round. I identified perennials, annuals, shrubs, and trees. I taught myself their names—scientific versions and nicknames.

I design, build, and maintain perennial gardens. I also teach people how to do it themselves.

I got a Green School Certificate in Horticulture through an amazing program at UMass, Amherst.

Welcome,

Linda Pilgrim

P.S. I have two brothers: Kevin and Brian.
