Early Spring Bloom, an Ode to Snow

Chionodoxa forbesii | Glory of the snow

Chionodoxa forbesii is one of the earliest spring bulbs to bloom in USDA Zones 3-8. The flowers have 6 gradient petals colored white to lavender to purple, with a yellow center. They like soil that drains well in the spring. And, if you’re lucky deer and rodents will likely ignore them. Fun fact: They are one of few plants that do not mind being planted under a black walnut tree.
