What do gardeners do in winter?
Or, what does this one (moi) do, anyway…
1.
Put clients’ gardens to bed.
It’s a sad occasion, to me. It feels like the show is over, even though my head and heart keep saying, ”but the show must go on.” It’s a tough transition. I don’t give up until it snows or the ground is frozen though.
2.
Freak out. (just kidding, sort of) Actually, freelance editing and writing.
Every year I work hard to have my winter work lined up, and except for a few recent winters spent producing organic yogurt on a dairy farm and cleaning huge vats and pipes, etc., I typically fail pretty miserably.
So, this year, thanks to a jumpstart, when Laurie Israel, Esq., hired me to proofread her new book, The Generous Prenup, I decided to return to the freelance editing and writing I love doing. (Apparently, I’m not too shabby, either, according to many writers and editors I have worked with, who insist on flattering me, for which I am grateful.)
I have been a freelance editor and writer for at least 20 years—across many industries.
However! This time, I aim to hone in on a specific niche. Wait for it…
Gardening! (with special attention to ways gardening intersects with health, ecology, art, beautiful living, botany, and related, creative problem-solving activities). But, wait, there’s more…
What goes better with writing and editing about gardening, health, and beautiful living environments with care for our natural ecologies?
You guessed it: Garden Design and Indoor Plantscaping and Problem-Solving
Designing (evaluating, sketching, mapping) custom outdoor perennial gardens and planting plans for new or existing clients in the Northeast US (aka Zones 3-6)—plus bespoke indoor plantscaping and problem-solving for people pretty much anywhere.
Interested? Even just a little? Curious about what you can do in your spaces? Problems you want to solve? Questions? Contact me.
I have several happy clients willing to share the happiness I designed and crafted and grew and nurtured into existence for more than 10 years.
I have loads of photos and drawings to share from all of my projects for the past decade. I plan to pick the best ones and post them here with a little back story or fun facts, tips, etc. So, come back and visit. I’ll keep it warm here this winter, thinking about last year and planning for next spring!
